Manchester City coach Roberto Mancini has insisted that his side will end the 2010-2011 season with a new trophy in the Manchester City cabinet.
The 45 year-old who joined the blue team from Manchester after the sacking of Mark Hughes is keen on silverware after spending millions on new players like Yaya Toure, David Silva, Aleksander Kolarov, and Jerome Boateng.
The Italian believes City will lift a title for the first time since 1976.
Mancini told The Mirror:
“I will win a trophy.”
“I don’t know if it will be the Premier League, a European trophy or the FA Cup. But we will win something. This year we will change our history.”
The former Inter boss said that for City to achieve success, the big stars in the squad need to get along on the pitch, forming strong relationships and bonds, and in doing so, he can turn City into a winning club just like he did in Inter.
He added:
“It’s important that we all work in the same way. I hope that all players I bring in will change our way of playing.”
“I want to bring in a winning mentality. You can only win a trophy when you work hard – and when you think. Because if you work and don’t think, it’s impossible when you play the game to do a good job.”
“When I arrived at Inter they hadn’t won a trophy for 15 years. In one year we changed our mentality. We became a strong team. We played at home and away with the same mentality.”
“So, in one year you can change. But if you don’t think in a technical way it will be difficult. I think our mentality must be intense.”
“It must be to try and win every game home and away, and to try to win the league.”
