The agent of Real Madrid star Gareth Bale has laughed off talks linking the Welshman with a move away from the Bernabeu outfit, while also talking up his Ballon D’Or prospects.
Jonathan Barnett, Bale’s agent, was speaking at yesterday’s Soccerex conference in Manchester, and fielded questions regarding speculation surrounding the player with a move away from Real Madrid. He insists the 26-year-old is happy at his current club and they haven’t even considered about a move to Manchester United, who are believed to be heavily interested in Bale.
“No. Everyone covets him. If you were a German reporter you would be asking me: ‘Is he going to come to Bayern Munich?’ And if you were an Italian reporter you would ask me if he would ever come to Juventus.
“The same if you are an English reporter and you would ask if he would ever come to Man Utd. We haven’t even talked about it [a move to United]. He is so happy with Real Madrid,” Barnett was quoted as saying by the Guardian.
Barnett further talked up Bale’s desire to win the coveted Ballon d’Or, the individual award which has been dominated by his team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi in recent years. He says Bale has every chance of landing the elusive award since he believes playing for the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona increases the chances of winning it.
“One of those [Bale’s ambitions] is to win the Ballon d’Or and he’s got the best chance in the world playing at Real Madrid. He wants to win everything and he’s very hungry to win everything.
“He hasn’t won the Spanish League yet [either] and statistics prove that if you play for Real Madrid or Barcelona then you have a better chance of winning the Ballon d’Or,” added Barnett.
With the forward intent on making his mark in Real Madrid colours and having a close eye on the Ballon d’Or, it seems unlikely Bale will be leaving Spain anytime soon. And with his agent further trashing rumours of a possible move, speculation surrounding his future can safely take a backseat for now.
