Ever since the transfer ban was lifted off Barcelona, Spanish media, specially Catalan media have gone frenzy. Each and every day there is some news story on transfer front. Today both the Catalan newspapers – Sport and Mundo Deportivo – claim Barcelona have still not given up the hope of signing Chelsea goal keeper Thibaut Courtois.
The Telegraph reported that Chelsea will recall Courtois in the summer and that there will be no loan move for him.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Courtois has become “an object of desire” for Barcelona, with the Catalan boards have had encouraging internal discussions on the possibility to sign him.
They reckon that Courtois personally wants to join Barcelona – the information the club gathered when they were evaluating the contenders to replace Victor Valdes.
Although they have already agreed a deal for Marc-Andre ter Stegen, but the Catalan giants are still targeting Courtois, because of his experience in Spanish football.
Sport says if Barca move early for him, a deal could be in place. Time is running out for them for two major reasons: a) Chelsea have the rights and they will want to secure his signature beyond 2016 and b) Barcelona’s rival Real Madrid see Courtois as an ideal replacement of Iker Casillas and the Los Blancos can make a move in future.
However, what could work in their favour is that, Courtois supported Barcelona when he was young and he prefers Spanish football, loves this country and wants to continue his career here.
The report says it is now up to Zubizarreta to take a bold decision. Coutois is young but has demonstrated extraordinary maturity beyond his years. Although they are doubting Ter Stegen’s quality, but factors like adapting to new system, new league and new language can be difficult for the German keeper.
