Manchester United probably have sealed the signing of Paul Pogba after a record transfer fee being smashed, as reported by Duncan Castles of the Daily Record.
According to the report, both United and Juventus agreed to the terms of the transfer on Wednesday. Juventus were demanding a fee around £108m for the French midfielder as a package that would include a £83.8m payment to the Bianconeri and a further £25.1m to cover a 30 per cent sell-on clause owed to Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola.
While preliminary deals were probably arranged earlier but the sticking point over the past few weeks appeared to have been over which club would pay the 30 percent sell-on clause owed to Raiola. It seems United have finally agreed to pay that sum as well.
Furthermore, Pogba wanted an after-tax salary worth over £10m to leave Juventus. He has been an integral part of Juventus’ recent success, having won four scudetto in four seasons and took the club to the Champions League final in 2015. Pogba was sensational last season for Juventus as well where he managed 23 goals and assists combined in all competitions for the Old Lady.
Put it simply, United have reportedly paid £110m to sign their former midfielder.
Castles notes that manufacturing company Adidas has reaped twice the benefit from the player’s transfer. Pogba has signed a lucrative long-term sponsorship with Adidas earlier this year. Adidas, likewise, are official kit sponsors of Manchester United, having sealed a record £750m deal paid over 10-years term.
Pogba joined United as a teenager from Le Harve in 2009. He was touted to be the next big star emerging from the club’s academy but left for Juventus instead after his contract was allowed to expire. United received a paltry fee of just €270,000 in FIFA-mandated ‘training compensation’ for the teenager following his move to Juve.
In that respect, Pogba, if the reported value is true, will seal a world record transfer eclipsing Gareth Bale’s move to Real Madrid from Tottenham in 2013. Furthermore, no club in the history of football would have paid such a massive transfer fee to re-sign their former player as well.
