Tottenham Hotspur are keen on improving their defensive options before the transfer window closes and are still considering a move for Sevilla star Jules Kounde.

According to L’Equipe via GFFN, Chelsea are currently in the driving seat to sign the French international.

The Blues have agreed to sell Kurt Zouma to West Ham United, and Kounde is likely to replace his compatriot at Stamford Bridge.

The 22-year-old is one of the best young talents around Europe right now and was certainly one of the best defenders in La Liga last year.

Both Premier League clubs need more quality at centre-back and will be eager to win the race to secure his services.

Spurs have already signed Cristian Romero from Atalanta, and he is expected to be the replacement for Toby Alderweireld.

Davinson Sanchez could be on his way out this summer, and Nuno Espirito Santo must look to bring in another defender before the window closes.

Kounde could form a quality partnership alongside Romero, providing Spurs with a much stronger base to their team.

The 22-year-old can also operate at right-back, and his versatility would be a bonus for Spurs.
