When legends start the downfall from their peak years, other names start popping up as their replacements. Scouts and journalists get busy with pointing fingers at youngsters who show the spark and likelihood of becoming one legend or another.
Joe Cole was ‘the new Gazza’, Berbatov was ‘the new Cantona’, Rooney is ‘the new Pele’ and of course Messi is ‘the new Maradona’. It is for time to decide if these predictions come true or not.
The latest addition to the list of “upgrades” is the new Drogba – Romelu Lukaku. Born in 1993, this 16 year old Belgian striker of Congolese descent was only four when he joined his first football academy. Jumping from one academy to another, he landed in the youth academy of the club, Anderlecht, in 2006. And since his promotion to the senior team of the club in 2009, he has scored 14 goals in 23 appearances.
Rumor has it, the top clubs like Everton, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United, AC Milan, Arsenal and Barcelona are all showing serious interest in getting his signature in the summers.
You might think, what makes him ‘the new Drogba’? Take a look at the footage of Lukaku in action, with rather annoying background music:
Thanks to The Spoiler for pointing him out.
