Reading Assistant manager: Tiago Ilori deal almost done

Reading assistant manager, Andries Ulderink, has confirmed that Tiago llori is on the verge of joining the Championship club from Liverpool in the January transfer window.

llori joined Liverpool in 2013 for a fee of around £7m from Sporting Lisbon. The 23-year-old centre-back failed to live up to expectations at Anfield, and managed only three appearances for the Reds.

In between, he was loaned out to Aston Villa, Bordeaux and Granada, but never really impressed any Liverpool manager. He was always seen as a player with bundles of talent, but somehow couldn’t show any Reds manager that he is good enough to play for the first team.

He didn’t impress Jürgen Klopp either, and has dropped further down the pecking order behind the likes of Joe Gomez and Alexander-Arnold.

According to reports from BBC, the Portuguese defender has joined the Championship club for fee of £3.75m, although Reading have not officially confirmed the move.

Ulderink has confirmed that the Portuguese centre-back’s move to Majdeski Stadium is ‘almost done’. He said during a press conference:

The last I heard the paperwork is at quite an advanced stage, so it’s almost a done deal.

But he is waiting for the last couple of things to be done. I don’t know the exact details but I’ve heard it is almost done.

llori is a talented defender but he is far from being the finished product. He has got big potential but probably his style is not suited to English football.

The best feature of his game is that he is extremely fast for a centre-back. He is good on the ball, but needs to work on the defensive side of the game. He has age on his side and also the mentality to develop into a quality player.
