Manchester United travel to the Britannia stadium on new year’s day to take on Stoke City in a clash that will kickstart the set of matches in the 20th game-week of the Premier League. Louis Van Gaal’s side will be determined for a win against the Potters after they were unlucky not to beat Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Mark Hughes’s Stoke come into the clash with a positive frame of mind after two consecutive wins, beating West Brom and Everton respectively, that too by keeping clean sheets. Stoke will believe they can beat the Red Devils or at least get something from the match in front of their vociferous home faithful.
United though will be looking to strengthen their third place but a win at the Britannia would take some asking. Van Gaal is expected to start with his 3-5-2 setup despite having defenders available for a back four. Ashley Young and Rafael are expected to be used in the wingbacks role while a back three could feature Paddy McNair, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling.
Michal Carrick will be acting as a pivot in front of the back three and will have Juan Mata and Wayne Rooney beside him. Ander Herrera is fit for the clash but the Spaniard might have to be content with a place on the bench. Robin Van Persie should partner Radamel Falcao up front.
