Newcastle United are keen on signing Valencia defender Mouctar Diakhaby.
According to Spanish publication AS, the Premier League club have already enquired about the player.
Valencia are looking to cash in on the player this summer, and the defender is also looking to sort out his long term future as soon as possible.
SL View: Could be a risk worth taking
The Magpies need some defensive reinforcements, and the 24-year-old could prove to be a quality addition if he can iron out his inconsistencies.
Steve Bruce will have to find a quality partner for Jamaal Lascelles, and Diakhaby could be an option.
The Frenchman was rated highly before his move to Spain and could still develop into a reliable player.
He is yet to reach his peak and could be worth signing if the asking price is reasonable. Diakhaby has a contract with the Spanish club until 2023.
Newcastle will face competition from Leicester City, with the club currently in the market for a long term replacement for Jonny Evans.
If Diakhaby can add consistency to his game, he could prove a solid investment for either club. There is a lot of potential upside to the transfer.
