Manchester United have been linked with the highly talented Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.
The Spanish midfielder recently signed a contract extension at Vicente Calderon, but the Old Trafford outfit are looking to sign him anyway.
Incoming Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is an admirer of the Atletico Madrid box-to-box midfielder and is willing to break the bank for him.
According to reports, Saul has a 54 million pounds release clause and Manchester United will need to pay up in order to secure his services this summer.
Initially not in the plans of Diego Simeone, Saul forced his way into the first team with fantastic performances in Spain and Europe last season. His goal against Bayern Munich further highlighted his mercurial talent.
Saul currently earns around 80,000 pounds a week at Atletico Madrid and Manchester United would have no problems matching his salary. Daily Mail also claim that Atletico Madrid are powerless if Manchester United decide to match the player’s release clause.
The report also adds that Manchester United are certainly planning on submitting an offer for the 21 year old midfielder this summer.
In other news, Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is set to be offered a one year extension.
The English midfielder had fallen out of favour with Van Gaal and was expected to leave this summer when his contract expires in June, but instead he wants to stay now that the manager has changed.
Mourinho will be officially presented this week and the Portuguese wants Carrick to stick around for another season.
Carrick earns £80,000 per week at United and it is thought that the new deal on offer will match those terms according to Daily Mail.
