French midfielder, Antoine Griezmann, says that he is very happy at Atlético Madrid and feels proud to play for the Rojiblancos fans. He has scored 50 La Liga goals for Atlético in 90 appearances since joining from Real Sociedad in 2014.
Griezmann enjoyed a phenomenal campaign last season and finished runners-up with Atlético in the Champions League. The 25-year-old went on to collect the runners-up medal again with his country as France lost 1-0 to Portugal in the Euro 2016 final.
The Frenchman is one of the most sought-after talents in Europe, and, quite inevitably, several heavyweight clubs are keen to lure him away from Vicente Calderón. Griezmann further complained that top players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Gareth Bale are never quizzed the same way about their future plans.
The French midfielder said, as quoted by AS:
I do not like these kind of questions about my future because players like Cristiano, Messi, or Bale are not asked about what is going to happen next year and where they will be or where they will play.
That’s why I do not like to be asked either. I am happy and enjoying life at Atlético, do not ask me more about my future. I am very happy at Atlético, I am proud to play for these fans, with these team-mates, with this coach.
I want to try to give back the trust and affection that has always been shown to me by the people of Atlético. I want to score goals and entertain people.
This week, The Times claimed that Manchester United were plotting a £145 million raid on Atlético Madrid to sign Griezmann and Saúl Ñíguez .
United’s interest in the French midfielder has been long-standing, and the club view him as a potential replacement for Wayne Rooney. The player himself admitted that he had asked his international teammate, Paul Pogba, about life in Manchester last autumn. Griezmann respects the sentiment of the fans and understands that it is futile to comment on his future every now and then, but it does seem only a matter of time before he makes a final step up in his career.
