Juan Mata’s future has come under intense speculation once again after Jose Mourinho openly admitted that the door is open for him to leave. The Spaniard was arguably one of the best players for the Blues over the last couple of years, but under the Portuguese, he has struggled to make a big impression and it seems, his future lies away from London.

According to reports from ESPN, Manchester United are monitoring Mata’s uncertain situation and could make a January bid for the 25-year-old, but Chelsea sources maintain Mata would only be sold to a foreign club and not to any rival clubs.

French champions Paris Saint-Germain and La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid are thought to be interested in him. However, according to Italian press, a swap deal with Inter Milan’s Fredy Guarian could be a high possibility.

The Colombian midfielder is one of prime January transfer targets of Chelsea, but Inter is unwilling to sell one of their star players in the mid-season. Corrieredellosport reports that the Nerazzurri could be willing to part ways with their star player, should Mata is made available as a direct exchange.

Apart from footballing reasons, Chelsea may sell Juan Mata from financial point of view as well. The Blues reported £49.4m loss for the year to June 2013, and therefore could sell the player in order to generate sufficient finance.
