They have been dominating global gossip columns in recent weeks, and now it has been reported that Man Utd will have to smash their club transfer record if they are to land Borussia Dortmund’s German flyer, Marco Reus.

The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to Old Trafford on several occasions, and according to the Daily Mail, David Moyes could now end the transfer saga with a stunning £40m offer.

Utd are in the market for midfield reinforcements, and have also today been linked with a big-money move for Atletico Madrid’s Koke.

Dortmund’s Reus had a £29.4m buyout clause in his contract with the German giants, but the Mail claim the situation has changed since Bayern Munich snatched Mario Gotze for a similarly low price last summer.

The Bundesliga side have now moved to put themselves in the driving seat over any future deals, and have insisted that Utd splash the cash if they want to prise their main asset away from them.

Here at Soccerlens, we have brought you the various Reus/Utd deals that have been talked about in the world press, with many rumours centering around a cash+player offer involving former Dortmund operator Shinji Kagawa.

Indeed, the Mail claimed a few months back that Dortmund have left the door open for the Japanese star to make a return to the club.

But the very latest reports has no mention of the struggling attacker, with straight cash seemingly the only bargaining option open to Utd at present.

Reus is a truly superb player, and already has 12 goals and seven assists from 27 games this season. He has quick feet, an excellent footballing brain, and is able to play the whole way across the attacking midfield line.

A January move may be a little optimistic for the Red Devils, and given that he would be cup-tied for the remainder of the Champions League, a summer bid seems to be the most likely scenario at present.

What do you think? Should Utd pull out the stops to secure Reus? Let me know in the comments below…
