Liverpool’s 3-2 win away at West Ham should give all supporters of the club massive cause for optimism. Liverpool are finally in the top half of the table and geared for an assault on the European places.
Bear in mind this win came without Liverpool having a high profile striker available as Luis Suarez was suspended. Jonjo Shelvey led the attack admirably and showed experience beyond his 20 years of age.
He held the ball up well, backed into the central defenders and dropped into the midfield when he needed to which showed he could be used in a similar attacking role for the rest of the season.
What Liverpool now have through this win is momentum heading into a busy Christmas and New Year period where they will make additions to the squad which will make the stronger over the second half of the season.
Liverpool have back-to-back wins in the Premier League through the opening part of December and they only lost one match in November which was a 2-1 defeat away to Tottenham.
Liverpool are four points away from Everton in fourth place so a Champions League position by the end of the season is still very possible. They have only lost four out of 16 matches which is only one more defeat than Manchester United.
A Europa League place is the minimum the club should be aiming for and the revival of Joe Cole and Stewart Downing along with the improved new role of Jose Enrique means plenty of attacking options which are only going to be supported by extra players.
Liverpool have ironed out the problems they had at the very start of the season and seem to have found a method and a system which works for the club and the manager.
They have done all of this on a small squad and with just over half a month until January, Liverpool can focus strongly on climbing up the table.
