The game started with Iker Casillas getting his marching orders in the second minute when Jose Callejon beat the offside trap and Casillas was forced to come out of the 18 yard box to tackle him. Casillas got the slightest of touches on Callejon and he chose to go to ground very gladly. The referee seeing the incident as a foul, showed Casillas the red card.
Espanyol failed to make chances pay as Real Madrid scored in the 24th minute thanks to Marcelo, whose over-lapping run was read by Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo ended up with no space and no options so he blasted the ball in the general direction of the goal which ended up in the back of the net.
If Callejon had stayed on his feet like he’s supposed to, he could’ve very easily gone on to score a goal with no keeper in it and the result could’ve been different.
