Mommy’s boy Olympique Lyon’s star striker Karim Benzema might have pledged to stay with the current French champions this season but he’s started work on his move for next summer already, with a style eerily familiar to anyone who followed the Ronaldo saga earlier this year:
Apparently Benzema’s is to play for the mighty Real Madrid and the soon-to-turn 21 year old French international has told Le Buteur that he promised his mother long back that he would go onto feature for the most successful football club in Europe, namely Real Madrid.
Stop me if you’ve heard this…
Benzema has been quoted as saying:
“It is my hidden dream in sport and it is a dream that is coming closer little by little. I like the white kit, the stadium, the atmosphere that exists around the Bernabéu…I promised my mother that one day I would play for Real Madrid, and I want that to come true.”
If I was a conspiracy theorist I’d say there’s a manual being circulated amongst football players titled: “How to engineer a transfer to Real Madrid” and most football players fail to make it past page 3, thus settling for the #1 trick suggested by the unknown author (Calderon probably), a combination of ‘it’s a dream’ and ‘my mother wants me to go’.
Just for this I hope Lyon price Madrid out of a move, although that’s unlikely to happen given Lyon’s history of making ridiculous amounts of money off their players. 30m? 40m? Summertime should be fun.
