According to Juventus sporting director Alessio Secco, Juventus won’t be signing Arsenal defender William Gallas or anyone else in January.
Gallas has been heavily linked with a move away from Arsenal in the last month, and it would appear all too likely that he’s nearing the end of his time at the Emirates.
However, with Juventus apparently happy with the squad that they have already, that takes one option off of the board. The other option looks to be AC Milan, who also has eyes for Liverpool’s Daniel Agger and Roma’s Philippe Mexes.
I don’t think Agger is leaving Liverpool in January, despite the uncertainty about his future, and it would also seem just as unlikely that Roma sell Mexes to a Serie A rival when they are in the knockout rounds of the Champions League and on their way back up the Serie A table after a disastrous start to the season.
So, Gallas could emerge as a low-cost fallback option if either of those two don’t work out. He could be available for only 5m, and that would be less than what they’d have to fork out for Agger or Mexes.
