English FA Cup
Craven Cottage – London, England
6 March 2010 – 17:20 GMT
Two teams in the top half of the English Premier League meet in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup on Saturday, March 6, 2010.
Fulham v Tottenham Preview
Fulham have never won the FA Cup and are looking to reach the semifinals for the first time since 2002. Tottenham Hotspur have a rich history in the competition, winning it eight times, but they haven’t lifted the trophy since 1991. Both teams are in the top half the EPL and have allowed less than 30 goals in the current season.
Spurs could be without Jermain Defoe who picked up a hamstring injury during his match for England on Wednesday. Tottenham will be without Tom Huddlestone (ankle), David Bentley (hip), Jermaine Jenas (groin), Aaron Lennon (groin), and Ledley King (thigh). Fulham doesn’t have the amount of injuries as Spurs but will be without Andrew Johnson, Clint Dempsey, and John Pantsil. Danny Murphy and Paul Konchesky could feature in the match but its not yet know if they will.
Tottenham have been the stronger team this season but Fulham have made Craven Cottage a fortress. They’ve been able to hold most teams defensively, have strong goalkeeper from Mark Schwarzer, and key goals from Bobby Zamora. If Defoe can’t go for Tottenham, then Fulham will definitely be the favorites in the match. Both managers are well respected and have had success at multiple clubs.
It should a competitive match and a high chance of a replay or one goal margin.
How each team reached the quarterfinals
Fulham: Swindow Town (1-0), Accrington Stanley (3-1), Notts County (4-0)
Tottenham: Peterborough (4-0), Leeds (2-2 & 1-3), Bolton (1-1 & 4-0)
Fulham v Tottenham Prediction
It should be a very even match but Fulham will win a close 1-0 match.
