Chelsea have lost seven of their twelve Premier League games this season and their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League are fading.
Owner Roman Abramovich has not yet pulled the trigger but the general consensus is that Mourinho has not got long left. The Portuguese manager needs a miraculous upturn in form and quick.
Amid talks that Mourinho could be sacked, there have been rumours of the Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone coming in to replace the Chelsea fan favourite.
It is understood that Chelsea are lining up an audacious move for the charismatic Argentine and will make their move in the summer.
According to Mirror, Simeone is interested in the Chelsea job and will consider taking it if his demands are met.
Simeone’s assistant German Burgos has also been taking lessons in English.
The report states that Simeone is not satisfied with the current squad and will demand a lot of changes.
The Atletico Madrid manager harbours serious doubts about the current Chelsea squad and will need his preferred players if he joins the London club.
It is understood that Simeone will request a massive influx of cash in order to strengthen his squad.
Also Simeone will demand a total control of transfers if he agrees to manage Chelsea.
The Chelsea squad is understandably lacking in depth and with key players like Ivanovic and Terry past their peak, the Blues need a few important signings to galvanise the first team.
Chelsea were previously linked with the likes of Carlo Ancelotti and Guus Hiddink, who were tipped to take over as interim managers.
Furthermore, the Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola has also been linked with the Chelsea job but the former Barcelona boss is believed to be closing in on a contract extension at the German club.
All things considered, Simeone would be an excellent appointment for Chelsea if they manage to pull it off. Meeting his demands should not be a problem for Roman Abramovich.
The Russian billionaire has always spent generously in order to back his managers with the players they want and Simeone can expect a similar support too.
The Argentine is one of the finest managers in world football right now and his personality is exactly what Chelsea and the Premier League needs right now.
Also, Chelsea have been linked with the likes of Koke and Griezmann in the past. If Simeone takes over, we can expect several Atletico Madrid stars to be linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
