Chelsea have been dealt a major transfer blow as Atletico Madrid left back Filipe Luis is planning to stay with the club beyond the summer. There have been reports that Chelsea were considering the Brazilian as a potential replacement for Ashley Cole, who was released by the Blues a couple of days ago.
The 28-year-old left-back has had a tremendous season for the Rojiblancos who won La Liga after a long wait of 18 years, breaking Barcelona and Real Madrid’s duopoly over the coveted title.
Despite Chelsea being interested to bring him at Stamford Bridge next season, Luis has claimed that he wouldn’t move in the summer and instead continue to reach greater heights with the Rojiblancos.
The defender was quoted by Sky Sports: “I have a contract for three more years. We have to lift our heads high after the Champions League final defeat and think about the next goal.”
Luis has featured in 42 games for Diego Simeone’s side this season, but despite his great performances in the previous campaign, the defender was overlooked by Brazil coach Luis Felipe Scholari for the World Cup.
“Sometimes we do not understand the criteria for choosing a selector.” Luis recently said to Spanish daily AS.
I do not dream of winning the World Cup, I’m on vacation “
I have many friends there , especially Maxwell and Marcelo. I really hope that
we can lift the trophy which the Brazilian people deserve.”
