Chelsea are confident of landing their number one managerial target Diego Simeone in the summer.
The Premier League champions believe that the world class manager will consider leaving Atletico Madrid after the Spanish outfit were hit with a transfer ban yesterday.
Along with Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid have also been banned from registering players for the next two windows and, therefore, neither club can sign players before the summer of 2017.
According to the Daily Mail, Roman Abramovich believes that this is the ideal time to poach Simeone from Atletico. The club are in a vulnerable position and the manager might be worried now that his hands are tied in terms of transfers.
Earlier the general consensus was that Simeone will stay at Atletico and build a dynasty with the La Liga outfit. However the ban is a major twist in the tale and it could affect the Argentine’s future.
Chelsea appointed Guus Hiddink as an interim manager last month and are set to replace him with a long term candidate in the summer.
Simeone to Chelsea would make perfect sense. The Argentine has proven himself against the European heavyweights and would be an outstanding addition to the Premier League.
