Chelsea have been boosted in their pursuit of Atletico Madrid midfielder Antoine Griezmann as reports from the London Evening Standard claim that the player is more than willing to make the switch to the newly crowned Premier League Champions.
Griezmann though has a transfer release clause of £43m but Atletico reportedly want to increase it to £100m to scare off potential suitors. The 24 year year old however move to the Vicente Calderon side from Real Sociedad last summer and in his first season has scored the most goals (27) for his club in all competitions this year.
Moreover, Chelsea could Atletico to sell their prized asset by offer Felipe Luis back to the Madrid side. The Brazilian left back has only played a handful games for Chelsea this season as Cesar Azpilicueta has made the left back slot his own throughout. The 29-year-old joined Chelsea for £16m and he has been reassured that he would be welcomed back by former team-mate Tiago.
And Tiago said: “We all know Felipe. I love him. If he is not happy then he knows the doors are open here. Here we always want players who have served the club and I have no doubt that he’d be well received.”
The ball thus is firmly in Chelsea’s court. Jose Mourinho has always been as a shrewd operator in the transfer market and there is no doubt he will entice Atletico by offering Felipe Luis and a cash offer for Griezmann.
