Belgian midfielder, Charly Musonda, returned to Chelsea early from his loan spell with Real Betis, the Spanish club confirmed on Monday.
Musonda joined Betis on loan in January 2016, and after impressing in the second half of the season decided to extend his stay. However, he has struggled to make an impact this season, managing only one La Liga start for his side.
“Real Betis and Chelsea FC have reached an agreement to terminate the loan of player Charly Musonda Jnr to the Green-and-White team,” read a statement on Betis’s official website.
Antonio Conte, the Chelsea manager, revealed that he will give Musonda a chance to establish himself at the London club. There is a big chance that he will stay with the first team, provided he makes a strong impression in training, but at the same time he could also move out on loan before the window closes.
Musonda’s father has revealed that his son also has an option to join AS Roma on loan, if he fails to impress the Chelsea manager within such a short time.
He said, as quoted by Het Laatste Nieuws:
There are only two options – Charly Jr. stays at Chelsea until the end of the season or he’ll join AS Roma on loan. Conte will have the final say. Charly gets the chance to prove himself in training. A return to Belgium is not an option.
Oscar’s move to Shanghai SIPG has freed up the space for a new arrival. Conte, however, has indicated that he would prefer to bolster his squad using players on the club’s books rather than new signings.
