Fabregas-FC-Barcelona6Fernando Torres has admitted Cesc Fabregas’ will be a great signing for Chelsea as he believes the Blues lack a player of Barcelona star’s calibre in their midfield.

If the reports are to be believed, the West London club have agreed a deal with the La Liga runners up, which will see Jose Mourinho’s side cough around £30m for the former Arsenal skipper’s services.

Chelsea have already allowed their legendary midfielder Frank Lampard to leave the club on a free transfer. The potential arrival of Fabregas would see him replace the England international at Stamford Bridge next season.

“Big players are always good signings. We know Cesc, he knows the division and was always among the top players when he was at Arsenal,” Torres said in an exclusive interview to Movistar.

“He likes to play good football and will offer ball control, cutting edge, goals… If he’s made to feel important, like a leader – like when he was at Arsenal – he can drive the team on and he’s a type of player Chelsea don’t have right now,” he added, as quoted by Marca.

Fabregas has been informed by Barcelona that he has no future at Camp Nou and the club are willing to offload the player. The midfielder’s former club Arsenal, along with Manchester United and Manchester City are also in the frame for signing the Spaniard.

Chelsea are believed to the firm favourites to sign him after Arsenal and City both withdrew their interest in the Spain international. United could still be hoping to hijack Fabregas from the Stamford Bridge outfit.

Should Fabregas join the Blues, it will boost Chelsea’s midfield for the new season. Meanwhile, Torres also heaped praise on another target for Mourinho – Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa.

“Costa is strong player who is good with his back to goal, someone who can mix it with defenders and offer another outlet when you’re having a hard time in possession. He has different attributes to our other attacking players, so he gives the coach a different option”, Torres concluded.
