Atletico Madrid v Mallorca
La Liga
Saturday 24 October 2009
Kick-off: 17:00 BST
Atletico Madrid Preview
Atletico Madrid replaced Abel Resino with Quique Sanches Flores on Friday (Laudrup couldn’t agree terms) after the embarrassing 4-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge and as such Atleti go into Saturday’s game relying on the club’s support staff to prepare them for this home game.
Atletico are currently 15th in the la liga table with six points from their first seven games, having been completely outplayed in their last two games (they lost 3-0 to Osasuna last weekend). Atletico are also at the bottom of their Champions League group and in danger of missing out on ‘any’ European football after Christmas.
Fans will be hoping that at least by the players will have been shocked into improving themselves after the events of the last seven days because another defeat here would be unthinkable.
Mallorca Preview
Mallorca are off to a good start to the new season, sitting fifth in the league table with 13 points from their first seven games. Mallorca will hope to take advantage of the problems at Atletico and get amongst their defence early and unsettle the already shaky Atletico backline.
These are the types of games that Mallorca need to start getting results in if they are going to achieve more than mid-table security in La Liga, and given Atletico’s recent troubles coach Gregorio Manzano will know that this is their chance.
Atletico Madrid v Mallorca Prediction
I’m back Atletico’s players to finally wake up and fight for their futures and the future of their club. We should see a spiky performance from both sides, but the class of Atletico’s players will shine through.
Prediction: Atletico Madrid 3-2 Mallorca
