Roberto Soldado has not has the happiest of times at White Hart Lane. Althoguh a reular starter under Andre Villas-boas, his opportunities have been curtailed under the stewardship of Tim Sherwood, and the new manager has placed his faith in Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor – and has been well rewarded for that faith.
All of that of course does not help the situation of Soldado, and each game that slips by lessens his chances of forcing his way into del Bosque’s Spain squad for the World Cup this summer. The former Valencia hit man has cut a sad figure and even when given an opportunity such as in the Europa League game away in the Ukraine this week he actually ended up by furthering damaging his chances by missing a fairly easy opportunity. Confidence is a big element in a striker’s make up, and at the moment, Soldado seems to be lacking in it. His manager’s attitude to his worth, will doubtless not help to resolve that. Reports suggest however that a chance to revive his career this summer could come from a move back to Spain with Atletico Madrid.
A few days ago, the Atli president spoke publicly about their star striker, diego Costa, definitely not being sold this summer despite strong and consistent links with Chelsea, amongst a number of other clubs expressing interest. Any reports of a move for Soldado however will probably mean that the stated reolve may not be as strong as it seems – whistling in the dark, and all that sort of thing.
For Soldado, any move to Atletico will come too late to proactively influence his World Cup chances, but it would give the player some light at what otherwise may seem an endlessly long tunnel. For Diego Costa however, it may just be the key to open the door to a move to the Premier League.,
