Chelsea in pole position to sign €41m Manchester United target

It was inevitable. Once Arda Turan’s agent said the Atletico Madrid forward wants to play in the Premier League, it was only a matter of time that Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United would be linked with the player.

Chelsea have a strong connection with Atletico (players signed in recent transfer windows), so it was quite predictable the Blues would be linked. Turan is a self-confessed Liverpool fan, and he gets linked with the Reds quite frequently, so it was also natural that somewhere in reports Liverpool would appear. As for Manchester United are concerned, they get linked with each and every player in the world!

Turan’s agent Ahmed Bulut spoke about his client’s next possible destination. He said to AS:

“Yes, it’s true that Milan and PSG are two of the six sides interested in him. But the Italian side won’t be playing in the Champions League so that option is moved to one side. PSG is a possibility but Arda has always dreamed of playing in England.”

“His exit from Atletico won’t be easy at all as he’s got a €41m release clause. There are on-going conversations with three teams, at the moment I can’t say any names, but they are the best teams in England and Europe.”

British media talkSport reported that Manchester United would be willing to bid £28m for the Atletico Madrid forward. However, if the Spanish reports are to be believed, it is the Premier League champions, Chelsea, who holds an upper hand in the race to sign him.

Chelsea manager Mourinho will let Filipe Luis return to Atletico, and Chelsea could be looking to include either Toby Alderweireld or Arda Turan as a part of the deal. Turan has set 10th July as a deadline date to have his future sorted (2 days before he’s set to return to training with Atletico). Basically AS is trying to suggest that of all the three unknown English clubs mentioned by Turan’s with whom talks are ongoing, Chelsea have an upper hand in the deal, because, they can include play plus cash offer for Turan.

Turan wants to play in Europe’s Premier competition, that is Champions League, which means even if he holds a soft place for Liverpool, chances are less that he would land up in Merseyside. The big question however is – do Chelsea, Manchester United or Liverpool really need Turan?
