Barcelona’s Cristian Tello looks to be on his way out this summer, with talkSPORT claiming that Napoli, AC Milan and Liverpool are all vying for the Spaniard’s signature.
The 22-year-old has only made two starts for Barca this season, coming on a whopping 19 times, scoring just twice.
Able to play on either wing, and a confident dribbler, Tello’s £8m-£10m price-tag will surely entice Brendan Rodgers, with the Spaniard’s potential akin to that of former Inter attacker Coutinho, who has blossomed under the Liverpool boss since his January move to Anfield.
Like Tello, Coutinho was a young talent in a side unable to accommodate him, struggling to make an impact at the Italian side, and spending time on loan before Rodgers swooped in to kick-start his career in England.
While the pair are admittedly different types of players, with Tello more of a wide-man compared to Coutinho’s playmaking instincts, Rodgers nurturing abilities, which he has shown with the likes of Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling this season, makes the possible signing of Tello all the more interesting, with the young attacker desperate for a mentoring manager to take him to the next level.
The Reds are on course to win their first Premier League title for 24 years this season, with Rodgers’ instilling a complete sense of belief in their own abilities, and fashioning a viciously attacking brand of football not seen in the English top flight for many moons.
But there is a distinct lack of quality width at Anfield, with Sterling recently playing more central, and only an out-of-favour Victor Moses as a natural wide-man in the squad, and Rodgers will surely be dipping into the transfer market for reinforcements.
If the rumours concerning Tello are true, Liverpool could be the stage for another struggling cocoon to be coaxed out of it’s shell by the brilliant Liverpool boss next season.
