Former Portsmouth and Fulhan defender Dejan Stefanovic claims Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho would have been in jailed in Slovenia for his treatment towards midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.
The recently retired German international joined the Red Devils from Bayern Munich for a fee of £6.5 million last summer. The 32-year-old has hardly featured in this calendar year as a injury ruled him out for the majority of the second half of the last season. However, he returned to the national squad to play in the Euro 2016, which was his last major tournament.
Schweinsteiger was signed by Louis van Gaal and the Dutchman has been replaced by Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford. The former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager does not favour the World Cup winning midfielder and has asked him to train with the reserves. Stefanovic is unhappy with United manager’s treatment towards the former Bayern star.
“It’s clear bullying. In Slovenia, we would have indicted Mourinho and asked for the highest penalty – three years in prison,” Stefanovic explained, as quoted by ITV.
“This is clearly meant to discourage Bastian. Mourinho is setting a bad example. I would take it to the ordinary court. In our case, the penal code is quite clear. If there is bullying and harassment, there’s a prison sanction, a maximum of three years in prison.
“Schweinsteiger should turn to the Professional Footballers’ Association and he should file a complaint and I would also seek penalty for Mourinho. All the players of the first team have to train with the coaches of the first team at the same place, at the same time as all other team-mates.
“That’s something that should be applied to each and every club and should be written within FIFA regulations.”
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who sold him to United has slammed the Red Devils for the treatment of the star midfielder.
