Liverpool have entered the race for Burnley striker Danny Ings.

The England forward is out of contract in the summer and has been courted by several Premier League clubs over the last few weeks. It is believed that Burnley are willing to accept an offer of around 3-4 million pounds for their star striker as they are reluctant to lose him on a free.

Ings came to the Premiership as one of the best players of the Championship, where he scored 26 times and helped the Clarets to promotion. Ings is already on course for double figures this season having scored 7 times in 19 appearances for a struggling Burnley side.

Liverpool have struggled in front of goals this season following the departure of Luis Suarez and the injury to Daniel Sturridge. Brendan Rodgers has often been disappointed with his new signings this season as the likes of Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert have failed to produce the type of performances that earned them a move to Merseyside.

Although, Danny Ings is not the best option around and far from a world beater, here are a few reasons why Liverpool should look to snap him up now.

Instinctive Poacher

Danny Ings might be an inferior player to Mario Balotelli when it comes to sheer talent, but the English forward offers something Liverpool desperately lacks. Ings would add a clinical presence upfront and would come in handy with the likes of Coutinho, Lallana and Sterling creating behind him. Ings is far from a complete forward, but his positioning, poaching abilities and his acceleration over short distance makes him an ideal third choice option.

Further, he is the kind of striker Liverpool are crying out for at the moment. There is no shortage of intelligence, technique and creativity in the side. Only thing lacking for Brendan Rodgers is someone who can convert the chances, step up Danny Ings!

Room for improvement

Danny Ings is only just 22. There is massive room for improvement and it has been proven that Brendan Rodgers manages to not only get the best out of his players, but his management of young players is outstanding as well. Under the tutelage of Rodgers and playing with the likes of Sturridge and Balotelli, Ings can only improve.

Business perspective

Signing Danny Ings makes perfect sense for Liverpool. Picking up a talented young home grown player on a bargain and selling him for a premium a few years later has worked wonders for the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea. If Danny Ings continues to develop and score goals, he would either be a fantastic signing for Liverpool, or fetch a handsome resale value for the Merseysiders.
