French champions Paris Saint Germain are looking for an attacking midfielder in the January transfer window and have shortlisted Arjen Robben of Bayern Munich, Marco Reus of Borussia Dortmund, Julian Draxler of Schalke O4 and Juan Mata of Chelsea as their possible transfer targets.
According to reports from French newspaper L’Equipe, the Spaniard still remains one of the prime targets of the Parisian club. Mata was chased by PSG in the summer but the Spaniard ruled out of any possible move. Little did he know that he would play a peripheral role for Chelsea this campaign despite being arguably the best player of the club for the last couple of seasons.
Throughout the summer it was speculated in the media that Jose Mourinho is not a big admirer of Mata and as often with the case, Chelsea fans chose not to believe it, slamming it as utter nonsense. The reality soon came into forefront as Mata was largely neglected by the Portuguese.
Still, Chelsea fans chose to believe the stories surrounding Mata are all but complete fabrication from the press. But, such illusion was disrupted when Mourinho himself clarified the situation saying Mata is not the first choice under him and the Spaniard will have to adapt to his systems in order to have any long term future.
Despite making 4 league starts this season, it still seems like Mourinho doesn’t have the full confidence on Mata. The Spaniard has dropped down the pecking orders at the club and therefore if a handsome offer from PSG comes in the summer, Mata probably would give a second thought about it.
After all at this moment, Mata’s only concern is to cement a regular spot in the side. With the World Cup in Brazil approaching at the end of the season, last thing the former Valencia man would want is an expulsion from Vicente De Bosque’s side.
With Oscar establishing as first choice no 10 for the Blues and Mourinho preferring Hazard, Schurrle and Willian over Mata – the future doesn’t look too bright for the 25-year-old at Chelsea.
