Manchester United negotiating €20m transfer deal with Real Madrid

Last night Real Madrid gave Soccerlens tower a big shock. The ever reliable Gianluca di Marzio claimed that Real Madrid are keen to sign Manchester United’s striker Javier Hernandez and have entered into negotiation with the Red Devils.

Hernandez became the first Mexican player to represent Manchester United when he joined in the summer of 2010 from Guadalajara. He had a terrific first season where he bagged 20 goals for the club.

However, the last couple of seasons have been hugely disappointing for him. He was mostly used as sub and played bit-part role under David Moyes.

Hernandez is a typical poacher. He can score you goals, win you matches but he is sort of old-school type striker and not a “modern striker” like Aguero or Suarez, who are expected to do more than just goal scoring. Coupled with that, he has had problems with his manager at the national team and has been used mostly as sub in the recently concluded World Cup in Brazil.

He is not in the plan of Louis van Gaal and at best United could do with him is to send him on a season long loan. Several Italian clubs had shown interest including Juventus, but it seems now Real Madrid are emerging as favourites to sign him.

The Los Blancos are actively trying to sign a striker before the window closes. Players like Falcao, Negredo and Mattia Destro have been considered but it seems Hernandez is emerging as a strong candidate.

Sky Italia reported last night that Real Madrid are looking to sign him on loan, but Spanish newspaper El Confidencial, who have great contacts with the Madrid club claim that the reigning European Champions are trying to sign him permanently. They have opened negotiation with an initial offer of €20m.

Yes, you read that right. €20m for Hernandez who has hardly contributed in the last couple of seasons would be one hell of a transfer. If the reports are to be believed, Manchester United were expecting to do a loan deal for him, and here they are negotiating at €20m (the price could rise as well) for the Mexican!

It could be the best piece of business from Manchester United this summer if they can get the deal done before Monday night.
