Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane has showered heaps of praise on Madrid’s brand new Galactico, who has been signed from Tottenham Hotspur. The French maestro further believes that Gareth Bale can only improve from here on.

Gareth Bale

The 24-year-old was undoubtedly the best player of Spurs last season and was rightly awarded the PFA player of the year award. He was strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer, and the Welshman has finally sealed his world record move on the transfer deadline day, after both the clubs agreed a €100 million deal for him.

Zidane, who works as an assistant coach and sporting director at the club, is more than happy to have Bale at Madrid and excited to have the opportunity to work with him.

The Frenchman thinks, Bale is one of the best players in the world at the moment and feels he can still improve a lot. Speaking to Canal Plus, he said:

“My role will certainly be to explain that he has to play as he knows. This is a player who has incredible potential, which he has demonstrated over the past three years and he is certainly among the top three players.

“But he can still progress a lot. I think he can bring a lot to Madrid.”

However, like so many other football critics who gave their opinion on the crazy money spent on the player, Zidane also walked the same path – criticizing his club for paying such ridiculous dosh to acquire Bale’s services. Zidane, who himself held the title of most expensive footballer on the planet when he moved from Juventus to Madrid in 2001, says the fee paid for a footballer is “incomprehensible.”

“Ten years ago I was bought for €75m and I said I was not worth this,” he continued. Even now I would think that a player is not worth this. It’s football, unfortunately. It is incomprehensible to pay so much.”

Bale will have to endure such criticism now and probably for the rest of his career. He would have to live with this burden of price-tag, and the only way to silencing everyone is through constant performance on pitch, which eventually would determine his greatness.
