Barcelona’s prized midfielder Xavi Hernandez, who misses a pass once in a couple of years, got injured in the late minutes of Barca’s loss to Atletico Madrid. The injury diagnosed is a muscle tear in his right leg and he will require two weeks of rest.

Xavi joins five of his key teammates on the injury bench and they are all out for extended periods of time due to injury. Namely, Eric Abidal, Dani Alves, Dmytro Chygrynskiy, Seydou Keita, Yaya Toure and now Xavi. Sergio Busquets picked up his fifth yellow card and he will also be suspended for the upcoming La Liga game against Racing Santander.

Xavi will also miss the next week’s Champions League game against Stuttgart. Barcelona have really hit a bad, bad injury patch in the middle of the season. Their loss to Atletico can also be blamed to the absence of first choice defensive players.

We already covered Eric Abidal’s injury during training before the Atletico game.
