Flying Dutchman officially the fastest footballer in the Europe
Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben, with his unbelievable run against Spain on Friday, has become the fastest footballer in Europe, with his 37kph dash beating the record previously held by Arsenal’s Theo Walcott.
Walcott, who’s 35.1kph had been the fastest clocked by a professional playing club football in Europe, saw his record smashed by Dutchman Robben, who flew past Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos to score Holland’s fifth and final goal in their 5-1 win over World Cup holders Spain in Salvador.
Ramos was powerless to stop the former Chelsea wideman, with the Spaniard’s measly 30kph no match for Robben, who scored twice in the rout.
Spanish architect wins €100,000 silver lining after predicting Dutch rout
A 56-year-old Spaniard has won a €100,000 fuel coupon after correctly predicting the outcome of Friday’s Spain v Netherlands game, with the 5-1 hammering meted out to his nation gifting him the ultimate consolation prize on a day of abject horror for the Spanish people.

Jacobo Ríos-Capapé, an architect from Valencia, picked up the unlikely prize yesterday, but never thought he’d win,
“I wish Spain had won, of course, but I thought that if Holland beat us, it would be big, so I came up with the 1-5 scoreline, but was not convinced. Actually after I thought it was outrageous and I would not win,” Jacobo told MARCA.
While the result has left a deep wound in the national footballing psyche, Ríos-Capapé sees it as a ‘revenge’ prize, and has big plans for Spain’s next World Cup game against Chile,
“It is my personal revenge for the defeat to Holland. Tomorrow, I’m going to fill up (my car with fuel) and then bet that Spain beats Chile 5-1!”
