Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher is expected to leave the club next summer on a free transfer. West Ham United are trying to sign him in January, and Sam Allardyce believes there is a 50% chance of the transfer occurring.
Fletcher joined the Old Trafford club as a trainee 15 years ago and made his debut for in 2003. In his long career at Old Trafford, he has won five Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup and two League Cups and West Ham would benefit from his vast experience, as the Hammers looking to qualify for European football.
Van Gaal expressed his desire to keep his vice-captain who earns around £90,000 a-week. He said recently as quoted by The Guardian:
“Darren Fletcher is the only player in my selection who has already won the FA Cup. He is also my captain – one of the three. That is what I can tell you. I am not sure if he will leave but he might be the subject of offers because it is the transfer month.”
West Ham are seventh in the table and only four points behind Manchester United in fourth. The signing should represent something of a coup as Fletcher’s addition would be a huge boost for the side that have an outside prospect of achieving Champions League football for the first time.
