Wayne Rooney has been given privileged access to Manchester United’s transfer activity, as David Moyes trying his best to convince him that his future lies at Old Trafford.
It seems like Moyes wants to rebuild his team around Rooney and are even considering making him the club captain next season. Further, the club will ready to hand him a new long-term contract worth as much as £15 million per year, which could be signed as soon as this week.
Yesterday, we reported that United have opened talks with Rooney and Paul Stretford, his agent, to extend his deal, which runs out in June 2015. Although the details of the deal have not been finalized, The Times reports, Rooney could be given a five-year long deal.
The efforts taken by Moyes to make Rooney the pivotal figure of the club is in stark contrast to the approaches taken by Sir Alex Ferguson. When Rooney went to suggest about Mesut Ozil to Ferguson, the Scot reminded him that it is none of his business.
However, Moyes is trying his best to keep Rooney and ward off interest from Chelsea. Rooney now has the chance to sign the largest contract for an English footballer and possibly could see out the rest of his career at Old Trafford.
The spirit in the United camp will be further lifted by the signing of Juan Mata, who joined on a club-record fee from Chelsea.
Wilfried Zaha is all set to join Cardiff City on loan, but will be ineligible to play against United in the next match, though Mata could make his debut.
