Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has confirmed that club captain Wayne Rooney will be out of the game against Watford due to illness.
The England international will be joined by the in form French striker Anthony Martial on the sidelines after the former Monaco star picked up a foot injury against England.
Van Gaal has now decided to dip into the academy to replace his two main goalscorers.
The Dutchman has called up Marcus Rashford and Sean Goss for the trip to Watford and will use them as alternatives to Rooney and Martial.
Rashford has been in stunning form for the youth side and the youngster has found the net 9 times in his last 13 outings. Clearly his form has not gone unnoticed and he could make his senior debut this weekend.
Van Gaal has shown that he is ready to put his faith in young players and the decision to call up the in form young forward, Marcus Rashford, could prove to be a masterstroke, especially if he can follow in Lingard’s footsteps and score against Watford.
Earlier this season, Van Gaal handed a start to the academy graduate Jesse Lingard and the young forward delivered with a goal against West Brom.
