What a difference 12 days can make! After his deadline day move to Real Madrid fell through thanks to delay in paperwork, David De Gea signed a four year contract extension yesterday with Manchester United till 2019. The 24 year old also has an option to extend it for a further year.
And with United hosting arch rivals Liverpool later today, it would be interesting see if Louis Van Gaal picks De Gea for a starting eleven spot. The Red Devils manager was earlier delighted to see the 24 year old staying at Old Trafford but had claimed that he would assess the player in training before making call on whether he would start on Saturday afternoon.
Van Gaal had said, “You shall see – you never know. We have to judge him in training.”

Sergio Romero has so far played under the bar keeping three clean sheets in 4 games in the Premier League but his vulnerability in United’s 2-1 loss to Swansea before the International break has raised concerns. De Gea too has done all he can in training to make a strong case of himself getting a starting role with two great saves.

De Gea has also claimed that returning against Liverpool will be the ‘perfect moment’ after agreeing his new£200,000-a-week deal.
De Gea said, “It is a perfect moment to come back and at Old Trafford, with the fans and against Liverpool, one of the biggest games in the world. I know the fans will love it if we win the game. Yes, of course (I’m ready to play. I train really hard and I played with my national team and of course I feel ready and 100 per cent fit.”
The Spaniard had earlier kept a clean sheet for Spain against Macedonia in midweek during the International break.
De Gea was in stunning form when Liverpool visited Old Trafford last season making some crucial saves helping his side cruise to a 3-0 win.
