Manchester united have confirmed their midfielder Michael Carrick will be out of action for the next 10-12 weeks with an ankle injury.
The England international picked up an injury during the training earlier this week and went under the knife on Thursday.
The statement on United’s official website read,” Carrick underwent an operation on his left ankle on Thursday morning having suffered the injury in training earlier this week. He will be out for between 10 and 12 weeks.”
Louis van Gaal took over the reigns at Old Trafford on Wednesday after stepping down as the Netherlands manager, post the completion of the 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign. The Dutchman held his first press conference on Thursday, where he was unveiled.
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich dropped a bomb shell that Carrick has suffered an injury during training.
“Michael was injured the day before and that’s a blow for me because he’s experienced. It’s very important we have experienced players,” Van Gaal said.
The midfielder’s injury will see him miss the pre-season tour and the starting few fixtures of the Premier League.
