Liverpool skipper scored twice as the Reds earned an emphatic 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The Reds skipper kissed the camera after scoring the second goal, which was reminiscent of his celebration in 2008/09 when Liverpool beat United 4-1 at Old Trafford.
This victory was important for Liverpool for more than one reason. Not only did they do the double over their rivals, but the victory has put them into a great position in the title race. Liverpool are just four points behind Chelsea, with a game in hand.
Gerrard had the chance to score a hat-trick of penalties on Sunday, but saw his last effort hit the post. This did little to quell the Liverpool celebrations around the world however, with fans gleefully sharing their feelings on Twitter:
No better day than a Steven Gerrard day.

Out of all of the title challengers, we are the hungriest. Gerrard is playing like a 22 year old. That can get us there. #LFC.

Gerrard was phenomenal. Not only in possession, but also in picking up the scraps around the edge of the box. Complete performance.

Can’t help but think Gerrard’s loyalty and legacy will have a trickle down effect to anyone who is playing with him currently.
