It couldn’t have gone worse for Liverpool.
Not only the Reds had to suffer the ignominy of being going out of Europa League, but by taking the game till penalty shoot-out, their preparations from the weekend’s crucial Premier League tie against Manchester City have been hampered.
Liverpool were forced to take the extra-time, after Arslan put the home side back into the tie with a thunderous strike from outside the box in the second half.
The home side energized by the goal pressed hard in search for a victory. And they could have won it in normal time had Ba’s effort not been denied by the crossbar.
Both sides nullified each other in the extra time as a result the game went to the penalty shoot out. Besiktas converted all their attempts while managed to hit 4 out of 5. Dejan Lovren, who had a nightmare of a match, took the 5th shot and his effort horribly went way over the target.
Fans & journalists took twitter to express their reaction to Liverpool’s defeat & Lovren’s performance.
Deservedly out, really poor performance. Sturridge and Sterling appalling, Allen and Can fought hard but got worse as it went on. #LFC

Sad state of affairs for Lovren and Liverpool, overall we didn’t make the most of our chances, Besiktas deserved it..now concentrate on top4

Why would an out of form centre back take that crucial penalty though?

If there’s one thing Lovren’s Liverpool career needed it was a penalty miss to put us out of Europe

Now then, who should be granted Liverpool’s most important kick of the season? Liverpool’s worst player of the season, you say? Makes sense.

That couldn’t have gone any worse for LFC tonight.

Had to be Lovren, didn’t it?
