Better Blues Bid For Begovic?
Chelsea are set to make an improved bid of 4.5 million pounds for Stoke City keeper Asmir Begovic, says the Daily Mail.
Analysis: Stoke aren’t interested in selling, and given that the funds aren’t needed, there’s not a marked difference between 3 mil and 4.5 mil.
Liverpool Ponder PSV Star
The Daily Mail also says that Liverpool could be set to offer PSV Eindhoven 5 million.pounds for Swedish forward Ola Toivonen.
Analysis: Given how he’s playing right now, 5 mil would be a bargain. He has five goals in his first two Eredivisie matches of the season, and he also scored in Sweden’s win over Scotland last week.
Everton After Izmailov?
Goal.com says that Everton will make a move for Russian winger Marat Izmailov. The 27-year-old could be sold by Sporting Lisbon for only 4.1 million pounds.
Analysis: The issues that he’s had with the club raise a red flag, and so do his injury issues. But he is very talented and is still on the young-ish side, and if he can stay fit and have the right attitude, he could be a hit for Everton.
Newcastle Like Look Of Leroy
Newcastle are hot on the trail of Feyenoord midfielder Leroy Fer, according to the Daily Mail. Newcastle have repotedly had one bid rejected, but they’re set to make an improved offer for the 20-year-old, who made his Holland debut last week.
Analysis: Newcastle were the class of the Championship last season, but they haven’t done much to improve that squad this summer, and that needs to happen if they are to have the best chance to avoid a serious survival fight in their return to the top flight.
Wolves Win Race For Welsh Wiz
Wolves are closing in on a deal to sign young Welsh striker Jake Cassidy, Sky Sports says. The 17-year-old only signed for Airbus UK this summer, but an impressive preseason with Airbus and a good showing in a trial with Wolves have earned Cassidy a Premier League move.
Analysis: Well it’s clear he knows where the goal is, after scoring seven goals in six preseason matches and then scoring again on his trial, which puts him ahead of many an experienced striker! Seriously though, with that ability, he’s got a bright future ahead. Hopefully Airbus are making sure to add a sell-on clause into the deal.
Baggies To Bag Nigeria Star
West Bromwich Albion should soon complete a deal for Lokomotiv Moscow attacker Peter Odemwingie. The 29-year-old says he has already agreed tens with West Brom, with only a fee left to be decided. (Daily Mail)
Analysis: Odemwingie has both World Cup and Champions League experience, which would be an asset for West Brom. And while the defense could be shored up after Saturday’s shellacking against Chelsea, they could also do to add another creative presence.

Benfica Put Price Tag On Chelsea Target
If Chelsea or anyone else are to sign Benfica defender David Luiz, it’s going to cost them at least 40 million euros, according to Benfica president Luis Filipe Oliveira. (Sky Sports)
Analysis: That’s a nice way of saying he isn’t for sale. As good as he is and will be, we won’t see Chelsea splashing 30-odd million pounds on him or anyone else this summer, and I don’t see City paying that much for a center back this summer either.

Celtic Sign Majstorovic
Celtic have signed Swedish center back Daniel Majstrovic from AEK Athens. The veteran defender has previously had spells at FC Twente and Basel, and he has 35 caps for Sweden. (Sky Sports)
Analysis: Majstorovic brings a wealth of experience into a squad that has a lot of young faces, and he also brings quite the physical presence, as he’s 6’4″”.
