North London giants Tottenham Hotspur are leading the chase to sign Willian, and are ready to take their summer spending spree to over £90 million, after a £30 million deal has been agreed with Anzhi for the Brazilian midfielder.
Willian is currently undergoing medical in London and though there is a small possibility that he might change his heart and join Liverpool, but all signs point towards him becoming the fifth summer signing for Spurs.
The Reds were thought to be favourites to land the 25-year-old, but Spurs decided to re-kindle their interest in the former Shakhtar Donestk player. Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas is a big admirer of the player’s talent, while it was reported that Chairman Daniel Levy travelled to Ukraine last January personally to negotiate a deal with Shakhtar, but it didn’t materialize in the end as he joined Russian club Anzhi instead.
Anzhi owner Suleyman Kerimov has put the entire first team out for sale, after suffering a financial loss, and Spurs are looking to take this advantage by bidding more than Liverpool to wrap up the deal.
Should Willian join Spurs, it would serve a huge blow to Liverpool and manager Brendan Rodgers, who have earlier missed out on big targets Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Diego Costa.
Meanwhile, reports are emerging that Spurs are also looking to add stardust to their squad, by adding Roma’s mercurial talent Erik Lamela, who is set to be offered a five-year deal worth £65,000-a-week. As per reports from Goal.com, Spurs technical director Franco Baldini has met with Roma chief Walter Sabatini in London on Tuesday, to conclude the business at the earliest. The Serie-A outfit values Lamela at around £30 million, a value Spurs are willing to pay.
Lamela is primarily seen as a direct replacement to Gareth Bale, who is now all set to bid farewell to the Lilywhites fans. The talisman Welshman is all set to join Spanish giants Real Madrid for a world record fee of £93 million.
