Tottenham Hotspur, who are still without a manager, are set to rival Arsenal for the signing of Houssem Aouar in the summer transfer window.
Aouar was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal last year, but the deal failed to materialised and he remained a Lyon player.
The 22-year-old was in sparkling form last season. He made 33 appearances across all competitions, scoring eight times and providing four assists.
However, with Lyon failing to secure Champions League qualification, Aouar is now looking to leave the club.
According to a recent report from The Sun, Arsenal are ready to bid for him again and feel they’ve got a good chance of getting him.
The report further claimed that the Frenchman could be available for only £20 million, and the Gunners are readying a contract worth £100k-a-week to lure the midfielder.
Arsenal’s hopes of signing Aouar could be scuppered, with the Sunday Mirror claiming that Spurs are interested in securing his services.
Spurs are looking to add creativity to their side, and the young midfielder features on the new director of football Fabio Paratici’s list of targets.
Both clubs have limited options in an advanced midfield role, and it makes sense that they are closely monitoring Aouar’s situation.
Lyon do not want to sell Aouar, but it would be hard for them to reject if they receive a good offer for their prized asset.
