Tottenham have been snubbed in their attempts to sign West Ham midfielder Scott Parker.
According to Sky Sports, West Ham have rejected a bid from Spurs for the former Charlton, Chelsea, and Newcastle man, and co-owner David Sullivan has stated that not only is the England international not leaving Upton Park, but talks over a new five-year deal have already begun.
“Scott is not for sale at any price, to anyone. West Ham supporters, for too long, have had owners that sell their best players and promise one thing and do another.
“This is a new era. We are building a bigger, better West Ham and when we make a promise, we honour it.”
“The club informed Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy prior to him making the offer that we would not welcome any approach to unsettle the player.
“Scott Parker has three years left on his contract and the club has opened talks with his agent over a new five-year deal.”
West Ham bought Parker from Newcastle for 7m in June 2007, and in his three seasons at the club, the 29-year-old has been one of the Hammers’ most influential players. Last season, he scored two goals, including the winner in a 3-2 win over Wigan in late April that ensured West Ham’s safety with two matches remaining. His fine form earned him a place in England’s 30-man preliminary World Cup squad, but he missed out on a place in Fabio Capello’s final 23.
