Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt an injury blow as Matt Doherty has withdrawn from the Republic of Ireland squad due to a knock.

The Spurs right-back was substituted at half-time during his country’s 1-0 loss to Luxembourg on Saturday and will now miss tomorrow’s trip to Hungary for the friendly clash against Qatar.
Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho will be hoping that the injury is not a serious one ahead of the resumption of Premier League action.
The north Londoners lost Welsh left-back Ben Davies to an injury at the beginning of the international break, and they will be hoping none of their other players suffer knocks in the coming days.
Davies picked up a calf problem during Spurs’ win against Aston Villa in the last game before the break, and it is unclear how long he is expected to be sidelined for.
Doherty did not make the matchday squad for that game, with his last appearance for Tottenham coming in the north London derby against Arsenal.
Ireland kicked off their World Cup qualifying campaign with a 3-2 defeat to Serbia before suffering a shock loss at the hands of Luxembourg.
Spurs resume action on Sunday with a trip to relegation-threatened Newcastle United, and they will be hoping to leave with all three points to boost their chances of finishing in the top-four.
It remains to be seen whether Doherty will be available for the clash, but Mourinho can call on both Serge Aurier and Japhet Tanganga.
Tottenham are currently three points and two places off the Champions League places with nine games to go, and they cannot afford to drop points against the Magpies if they wish to play in Europe’s elite competition next season.
In other news, Spurs plan to extend the contract of defender who has not played for them since 2016-17.
