Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas–Boas has dismissed speculations regarding the future of Jermaine Defoe at White Hart Lane.

Jermaine Defoe has been linked with a move to QPR in January after former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp took charge at Loftus Road. QPR, who are currently lying at the bottom of the table, have struggled to score goals this season.

They have managed to score only 10 goals in 14 matches so far (the lowest in the league) and Redknapp is expected to be in the transfer market this January in search of more attacking options.

Recent media speculations suggested that Harry Redknapp is interested in signing Tottenham striker Jermaine Defoe in winter. But Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas has rubbished those rumours saying it is ‘impossible’.

When asked about the possibility of Defoe leaving in January, AVB said:

“That’s not possible.

“It’s absolutely impossible. We have the belief in him.”

The Tottenham manager also heaped a lot of praise on the England international and even ended up comparing him to Atletico Madrid striker Falcao.

Villas-Boas added:

“I certainly put him alongside Falcao,” added Villas-Boas.

“His hunger for goal is extreme. That makes things easier for you to work with because you don’t have to teach a lot.

“He smells every cross and when the opportunity is there to tap it in.”

Although comparisons with Falcao might be a bit farfetched, there is no denying the fact that Defoe has been in fine form this season. The 30-year-old forward has already scored 10 goals (in all competitions) this season and is one of the most in-form strikers in the league currently.

AVB seemed to have restored Defoe’s belief since taking over at the club which seemed to have worked wonders for him. In fact it is Adebayor’s future at White Hart Lane which is in doubt at the moment.

It looks highly unlikely that Tottenham would sell Defoe in January considering his form and also the limited options that AVB has in the striker’s department. But a move for Spurs’ defender Michael Dawson, who has also been linked with QPR, cann’t be ruled out.

AVB said on Dawson leaving the club in January:

“I think if that possibility arises we will have to consider it.”
