Tottenham Hotspur might be struggling to score enough goals at the moment and create enough chances for their forwards, but manager Andre Villas-Boas doesn’t think so. Rather, he is focusing on bolstering his defensive troop, and as per reports from Daily Mail, Spurs are considering a January move for Real Madrid defender Fabio Coentrao.

Spurs have only conceded 5 goals this season in the Premier League while Villas-Boas has praised his well knitted, organized, defensive unit after the 0-0 draw with Everton on Sunday. But the Portuguese feels the left-back position needs bolstering and therefore could make a move to bring the Real Madrid full-back at the White Hart Lane on loan in January.

At present, both the left backs – Danny Rose and Kyle Naughton – are injured and Villas-Boas has deployed central defender Jan Vertonghen to fill that role. However, the Belgian has expressed his dissatisfaction for playing out of position regularly, he said:

“Once there are injuries, I’m the first to fill in the gap. Sometimes it’s better if you can play in only one position.

“Other players specialise on one position and they can completely concentrate. I can play at left-back and I can help the team at times. But everyone knows I am not a left-back.”

Coentrao is not the first choice left-back of coach Carlo Ancelotti and was used in only four of the 15 official games for Real Madrid this season. Therefore, a move in the winter transfer window is still a possibility as the player could be looking for regular football, something the 25-year-old is missing at the moment.

The Portuguese was linked with a move to Spurs in the summer while it was reported that Manchester United were also interested in buying him on the transfer deadline day.
