Former Liverpool captain has revealed that he rejected an offer from Tottenham before joining MLS side LA Galaxy in the summer. A reports from London Evening Standard quoted the midfielder saying that he had offers from French sides Monaco and Paris St Germain while Turkish outfit Besiktas also came knocking.

The 35 year old said, “A few English clubs called but I wouldn’t play against Liverpool. There was interest from Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino. It was good to know he still rated me. I was sure I could play in the Premier League for another year but there would not have been much of a buzz doing the same thing all over again with Tottenham.”

Gerrard also added, “The first offer came from Besiktas, then managed by Slaven Bilic. Monaco were next. They came in strong. Paris Saint-Germain were also very keen. David Moyes called my agent a couple of times, to see whether I would be interested in playing for him at Real Sociedad.

Gerrard however also mentioned, as per the Daily Mail, that he would have stayed at Liverpool had the club offered him coaching role.

The player who is settling in his new life in California claims that a perfect scenario for him would be getting offered a one-year contract by the Reds which would also have involved coaching duties.

The former England captain also suggested that he was “misled” by Reds manager Brendan Rodgers, prior to last season’s Premier League encounter against Manchester United at Anfield. Gerrard who wasn’t selected for a starting eleven spot came in at half time but he lasted just 38 seconds before getting sent off for a stomp on Ander Herrera

Gerrard claims that he had received a a text message sent by Rodgers indicated he would start the game but was surprisingly being told in person he won’t be. He said, “It hurt me, especially because of our previous conversations and the fact that his Wednesday night text, which had been full of praise, had misled me.”

“I’m sure he didn’t mean to give me the wrong impression but his text confirmed in my mind that I would be selected.”
